Apparently there is an annual rocket festival in Phayak where locals from nearby villages gather together to fire rockets throughout the entire day (no idea why they call them rockets). You can buy the rockets from numerous stalls and fire them off wherever you like. There is also a competition where people bring their homemade rockets to fire off from a stage to see whose rocket will go the highest/farthest. We had a shock when the first one went off as the sound was incredibly loud and ear piercing.
